Elopement Ideas in Minnesota // Black Sand Beach & Palisade Head

November 18, 2021

So you’re considering an elopement instead of a large, full wedding?! Eloping may just be the growing trend right now and I’m here for it! Today I’m giving you a few Minnesota elopement ideas to truly make your day a dream come true!

As an elopement photographer, I’ve captured many couples who choose to elope. The reason I love elopements so much is seeing couples invest in meaningful moments versus a long, stressful, and full day. Minnesota may not be the biggest known elopement location, but I can tell you from experience it has plenty of beautiful places to celebrate your marriage.

What is eloping?

Eloping is a celebration for just you two! (And a few others, if you choose!)

A small, intimate ceremony is celebrated with less structure and stress so your day is truly surrounded by you and the person you love. The best part?  You can elope anywhere you want!

Why choose an elopement?

Many couples trade in the traditional church setting for beaches, rolling hills, lakeside views, Arizona desserts, and more. The possibilities are endless and this is what makes the entire experience so unique.

Elopements allows you to celebrate with very little planning, minimal entertaining of hundreds of guests, and a day of spontaneity and adventure. While downsizing your guest list may not have been your plan all along, an intimate setting is still full of emotion and you’ll be surrounded by the closest, most important people in your lives.

Choosing your Location: Minnesota Elopement Ideas

There are tons of locations to choose when eloping in Minnesota. Being an elopement photographer, I can think of many spots in Minnesota that would make great venues for your intimate ceremony.

One of the most beautiful spots is Black Sand Beach and Palisade Head. It’s about 2 miles north of Silver Bay, along highway 61. From tall rocks overlooking Lake Superior, the view is absolutely breathtaking. Not to mention you can see for miles off the large outlook point.

The parking nearby makes this an easy spot to navigate to without many trails or paths to hike through. From this point you can see Sawtooth Mountains and the Split Rock Lighthouse on the other side. If you’re looking for adventurous elopement ideas in Minnesota, Palisade Head is beautiful on a clear day and one where your wedding photos will be once in a lifetime memories to look back on.

Palisade Head is truly a must-see if you’ve never been! Grab your fun, adventurous elopement photographer and let’s do this thing!

There are three beaches that open up at Silver Bay in Minnesota. Black Sand Beach is one and it is a stunning location for an elopement! The long strip of black sand is speckled with driftwood and such a dream for elopement photos. It’s three hours from Minneapolis and one hour from Duluth.
